Low Country Callings: Goin' with the Flow Opening Reception

In their ongoing mission to present local artists who concern themselves with our maritime heritage, Ships of the Sea Museum is pleased to present an exhibition of ten large-format acrylics entitled “Low Country Callings: Goin’ with the Flow.” This exhibition comprises a narrative of Savannah’s maritime community in portraiture, with vital and vivid almost-life-size portrayals of those who live and work here on our waterways. The exhibition will run from January 10 through April 2, 2017, with a free opening reception at the Museum on January 13 at 6 p.m.

The Savannah Community Theatre presents an original script, 'KEN'

'KEN' is based on a short story of the same name by Arnold Sundgaard which was published in The New Yorker Magazine in 1959. The show is produced by Stratton Leopold and adapted for the stage by Tom Coleman, III. 'KEN' is based on the true account of a nightmarish train ride which the story writer took in 1933 while he was a student at the Yale Department of Drama. When a fellow student dies, he is elected—under pressure—to take the casket containing the boy’s body back to his parents’ home in Portland, Oregon. The story centers around his trip, the funeral that follows and the events that changed his life. Watershed: Contemporary Landscape Photography

Watershed examines landscape photographs produced after 1970, in particular works that illustrate mankind’s undeniable and often negative impact on the land, establishing a firm split from the pristine worldview of earlier landscape photographers such as Ansel Adams. The photographs in this show reveal landscapes as activated spaces imprinted by mankind and marked by social performance. The exhibition features works by artists such as Gregory Crewdson, William Eggleston and Sally Mann.
