Overview of Position:

The First Impression Specialist assists guests with information and gives directions. First Impression Specialists also receive incoming calls and fill out requests for information sheets that are sent to Visit Savannah.

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Assists guests with questions and directions.
  • Answer the phones and fulfill any requests for visitor information.
  • Keeps a record of how many guests are assisted from each state and foreign country.
  • Maintains and restocks local brochure racks. 
  • Maintains and restocks state brochure racks.
  • Updates the bulletin board and checks with the supervisor to see if there are any special events or updates that they need to be aware of.
  • Assists in opening the VIC and closing the VIC by helping with the lights, videos, and door locks.
  • Fills in, if possible, when called to work for another employee who is out due to illness or family emergency.
  • Willingness and ability to work at any of the manned Visitor Information Center sites (Martin Luther King, City Market, or River Street).
  • Attends monthly staff meetings.
  • Basic computer knowledge to utilize tablets at the front desk.
  • Keeps current with area events and new member businesses (tours, attractions, hotels. restaurants, etc.).
  • Assists with taking pictures of guests in the photo area.
  • Takes pictures and gets information about interesting guests for inclusion in the newsletter.

Education and Experience/Key Competencies

  • High school diploma required. Some college preferred.
  • Must have good customer service skills.
  • Must have strong communication skills.
  • Must have good problem-solving skills.
  • Must have basic knowledge of Savannah and Tybee.
  • Must be able to give directions to others.
  • Must have basic computer skills.
  • Must be responsible and dependable.
  • Must be a self-starter; be self-motivated, and able to multi-task.
  • Must be flexible and able to adjust to changing conditions, circumstances, and priorities.
  • Must demonstrate a positive attitude and cooperate with other staff.

Work Environment

First Impression Specialists work in public City of Savannah buildings.  Work may require occasional weekend and/or evening hours.  Reasonable accommodations may be limited to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
