Savannah Invitational Brings Division I Basketball Back to Civic Center

SAVANNAH, GA – For the second year, the Savannah Sports Council is welcoming ten Division I collegiate teams for the Savannah Invitational basketball tournament, taking place November 21-25 at the Civic Center.

President of Visit Savannah Joseph Marinelli says that the organization is pleased to see this event bringing top-tier collegiate sports to Savanah. “The Savannah Sports Council is proud to host the 2nd Annual Savannah Invitational. This is a unique opportunity for Savannah to experience several elite college basketball teams in one location," Marinelli says. “We are really excited that Savannah State is a part of this year’s match-ups in addition to the other nine top-notch basketball programs. We encourage everyone to come out and experience a little November madness.”

Participating women’s teams and conferences, which are scheduled to play November 21-23, are the University of Florida (SEC), Providence College (Big East), University of Richmond (Atlantic 10), Stetson University (Atlantic Sun), Wright State University (Horizon) and hometown team Savannah State University (MEAC).

Men’s teams and conferences, scheduled to play November 24 and 25, are Kent State (Mid-American), Loyola University (Missouri Valley), University of North Carolina Wilmington (CAA) and Valparaiso University (Missouri Valley).

November 21 – Round 1

  • 2 p.m. – Stetson University vs. Wright State
  • 4:30 p.m. – University of Florida vs. University of Richmond
  • 7 p.m. – Providence College vs. Savannah State

November 22 – Round 2

  • 2 p.m. – University of Richmond vs. Savannah State
  • 4:30 p.m. – Wright State vs. Providence College
  • 7 p.m. – University of Florida vs. Stetson University

November 23, Round 3

  • 2 p.m. – University of Richmond vs. Wright State
  • 4:30 p.m. – Providence College vs. Stetson University
  • 7 p.m. – Savannah State vs. University of Florida


November 24 – Round 1

  • 5 p.m. – Loyola University vs. UNC Wilmington
  • 7:30 p.m. – Valparaiso University vs. Kent State

November 25 – Round 2

  • 5 p.m. – Loyola University vs. Kent State
  • 7:30 p.m. – Valparaiso University vs. UNC Wilmington
