Join us for a special screening of The Making of Taylor Square, a powerful documentary that captures a community's fight to reclaim history, honor truth, and reshape public memory in Savannah.

The film follows Gullah Geechee storyteller Sistah Patt Gunn as she leads a diverse coalition through a three-year campaign to rename Savannah's Calhoun Square—previously honoring pro-slavery politician John C. Calhoun—in honor of Susie King Taylor, a Civil War nurse, educator, author, and formerly enslaved woman whose legacy had long been overlooked.

Through moments of resistance, difficult conversations, and inspiring perseverance, The Making of Taylor Square documents the challenges of confronting the past while illuminating the power of collective action and community voices.

Following the screening, guests are invited to stay for a special Q&A discussion exploring the making of the film, the movement behind the renaming effort, and the ongoing importance of preserving and uplifting local history.
