Experience the unique and flavorful fortified wine and hear how it intertwines with the history of Savannah, as a port city and a center of hospitality. Mid and late 19th-century Savannahians, Ward McAllister* and William Neyle Habersham, will be linked to Madeira and Madeira parties.
The program is a 75-minute experience that provides an overview of what Madeira wine is and its connection with Savannah.
*McAllister, who with Mrs. Astor became the arbiters of NY society, said, "In Savannah and Charleston, from 1800 up to the Civil War, afternoon wine [Madeira] parties were the custom."
Patrons must be able to maneuver stairs.
