Savannah is open year-round, no matter the season. Its fair-weather temperament has crowned it an ideal location for families seeking a getaway where reconnection, activities, discovery, art, and history are commonplace, no matter the time allotted. The city's family-friendly options give children the freedom to roam while parents take in the joy unfolding before them. Among them, Savannah Children's Museum stands out.

Operated by Coastal Heritage Society, Savannah Children's Museum is an outdoor showcase that encourages unique ways to play and expand learning through an art-making space, sensory garden, storytime, and more. And now, that spirit of curiosity is growing indoors. The museum’s first indoor expansion arrives in the form of the new STEAM Center, a dynamic space dedicated to science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics for learners of all ages.

01

What is the STEAM Center?

Savannah families and visitors now have a new way to explore and play indoors with the introduction of the STEAM Center and its featured exhibition, Numbers in Nature. Inside the 1,800-square-foot Mirror Maze anchors a hands-on gallery where children experience how math shapes the world around them. It marks a new chapter for Savannah Children’s Museum, offering year-round exploration and a reliable indoor option when Savannah’s weather has other plans.

02

There are Numbers in Nature

Housed in a reimagined storehouse once part of the Central of Georgia Railway, Numbers in Nature brings mathematical concepts to life through interactive displays inspired by the human body, sound, design and the natural world. At the center of it all, the immersive Mirror Maze invites families into a geometric labyrinth of light and reflection, transforming abstract ideas into an engaging, memorable experience.

03

Year-Round Educational Enrichment

The STEAM Center expands Coastal Heritage Society’s longstanding devotion to education, transforming hands-on exploration into year-round enrichment. Inside the dedicated classroom space, educator-led sessions invite children to dig deeper into scientific concepts, creative problem-solving and real-world applications of STEAM principles.

Much more than a featured exhibition, this is a lasting investment in Savannah's families and future thinkers. By pairing interactive discovery with guided learning, the STEAM Center strengthens Savannah Children’s Museum as a hub for meaningful educational experiences.

04

Powered by Community

Bringing the STEAM Center to life was a true community effort. The vision for an indoor expansion of Savannah Children's Museum became a reality thanks to the generous support of donors who believed in the power of education and preservation working hand in hand. Coastal Heritage Society extends its gratitude to the City of Savannah, Colonial Group, Inc., Lesher Family Foundation and Malcolm & Julia Butler for helping transform this historic space into a dynamic center for discovery.
