Established in 1733, Johnson Square is the oldest and largest of Savannah’s 22 historic squares. Named after Robert Johnson, the colonial governor of South Carolina, the square serves as a central landmark in the city’s original town plan. It features a striking obelisk honoring Revolutionary War hero Nathanael Greene, shaded walkways, and beautifully landscaped gardens. Surrounded by banks and historic buildings, Johnson Square remains a bustling hub of civic life and a gateway to Savannah’s rich colonial heritage.
