The Cemetery Angels, Inc. 501(c)(3), proudly presents the next installment of our free educational tours with Savannah's "hidden gem" cemetery, Laurel Grove North Cemetery. While its cousin, Bonaventure Cemetery, is a tourist favorite, Laurel Grove Cemetery, founded in 1853, is often called "the locals' favorite." Without question, the vast representation of ironwork, statuary, and mausoleums gives it no other peer in Savannah, and it lives frozen in time, uninterrupted, without crowds, and is Savannah's only Victorian Age cemetery, having sold out in 1901. It's the closest thing to stepping back in time and like walking through a living artwork. Known for famous women like Juliette Gordon-Low, Phoebe Pember, Nina Pape, and Mary Marshall, along with being the closest thing to a Southern necropolis for those who died at Gettysburg and many other battlefields. You'll hear the stories of artists, industrialists, soldiers, saints, and sinners, along with surprises like "Mr. Bones," a famous police dog! The tour will be conducted by native Savannahian and storyteller, extrordinaire, Paschal Miller (MUP, MRT), who makes an impression like no other! Refreshments will be served!
