Info & Amenities

Located on picturesque Monterey Square in Savannah’s Historic District, the Mercer-Williams House Museum is one of the city’s most iconic and storied residences. Designed in 1860 by renowned New York architect John S. Norris for General Hugh W. Mercer, great-grandfather of famed songwriter Johnny Mercer, the home’s construction was halted by the Civil War and completed in 1868 by new owner John R. Wilder.

This grand Italianate mansion features original 19th-century architecture, soaring ceilings, and a striking red-brick façade. Inside, visitors can explore rooms filled with fine art, antique furnishings, and Chinese export porcelain from the private collection of Jim Williams, the preservationist who restored the home in the 1960s.

The house gained international fame as the setting of the bestselling book and film Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil, adding a layer of mystery to its already rich history.
