Being green's not easy — especially if you're a likable, albeit antisocial, ogre named Shrek. In this irreverent riff on cartoonist William Steig's fractured children's book of the same name, Shrek sets off on a quest for Lord Farquaad to rescue Princess Fiona after the incredibly vain lord exiles fairytale creatures to the ill-mannered ogre's swampy sanctuary. Along the way, he meets a talking donkey, singing highwaymen, and a large pink dragon while learning that maybe — just maybe — people aren't as bad as he thought.

Celebrating its 30th anniversary this year, DreamWorks Animation struck gold with 1999's Shrek. The first film to win the Oscar for Best Animated Feature, Shrek has become a cult classic, finding a new life thanks to the internet and memes. DreamWorks recently announced a fifth film in the series, which is currently in production.

This event is part of the 30th anniversary celebration of DreamWorks Animation and its groundbreaking artistic achievements, which will culminate with special events at the 2024 SCAD Savannah Film Festival.

Tickets are free for SCAD Card holders, $5 for students, military, and seniors, and $8 for the general public.
