Savannah is open year-round, no matter the season. Its fair-weather temperament has crowned it an ideal location for families seeking a getaway where reconnection, activities, discovery, art, and history are commonplace, no matter the time allotted. The city's family-friendly options give children the freedom to roam while parents take in the joy unfolding before them. Among them, the Savannah Children's Museum stands out.

Operated by Coastal Heritage Society, the Savannah Children's Museum is an outdoor showcase that encourages unique ways to play and expand learning through an art-making space, sensory garden, storytime, and more. And now, that spirit of curiosity is growing indoors. The museum’s first indoor expansion arrives in the form of the new STEAM Center, a dynamic space dedicated to science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics for learners of all ages.

What is the STEAM Center?

Savannah families and visitors now have a new way to explore, discover and play indoors with the introduction of the STEAM Center and its featured exhibition, Numbers in Nature. Inside, an 1,800-square-foot Mirror Maze anchors an interactive gallery where children uncover the mathematical patterns woven through music, art, nature and architecture. It marks an exciting new chapter for the Savannah Children's Museum, offering year-round discovery and a welcome indoor option when Savannah's weather calls for it.

There are Numbers in Nature

Housed in a reimagined storehouse once part of the Central of Georgia Railway, the STEAM Center’s Numbers in Nature exhibition reveals the patterns woven through the world around us — from bodies and music to architecture and the natural environment. At the heart of the experience, the immersive Mirror Maze challenges families to navigate a dazzling geometric landscape where triangles, reflections and optical illusions turn mathematical concepts into an unforgettable adventure.

Year-Round Educational Enrichment

The STEAM Center expands Coastal Heritage Society’s longstanding devotion to education, transforming hands-on exploration into year-round enrichment. Inside the dedicated classroom space, educator-led sessions invite children to dig deeper into scientific concepts, creative problem-solving and real-world applications of STEAM principles.

Much more than a featured exhibition, this is a lasting investment in Savannah's families and future thinkers. By pairing interactive discovery with guided learning, the STEAM Center strengthens the Savannah Children’s Museum as a hub for meaningful educational experiences.

Powered by Community

Bringing the STEAM Center to life was a true community effort. The vision for an indoor expansion of the Savannah Children's Museum became a reality thanks to the generous support of donors who believed in the power of education and preservation working hand in hand. Coastal Heritage Society extends its gratitude to the City of Savannah, Colonial Group, Inc., Lesher Family Foundation and Malcolm & Julia Butler for helping transform this historic space into a dynamic center for discovery.
